Dick Lyster

One of the most versatile track stars ever to represent Temple, Dick Lyster scored a record 251 1/2 points during his career. He captured many championships and was the Owls' first IC4A champion, winning the 1949 indoor and 1951 outdoor high jump titles. He was nationally ranked in the high jump and was also a consistent winner for Temple in the broad jump and hurdles. He was the 1949 MAAU high jump champion and won his specialty at the Knights of Colombus Meet in 1950 and 1951. In 1950, he was the MAAU high jump and hop-step and jump winner. In seven 1949 meets, he scored 64 1/2 points. During seven 1950 meets, he bettered Eulace Peacock's one season record with 97 points. As a senior in 1951, he had 89 points in six meets. AÂ triple winner in most of Temple's dual meets, he sometimes would win four events. He also starred at Frankford High School before coming to Temple, setting the Frankford High record for the high jump as a senior.
