The only Temple men’s basketball coach to also serve as a head coach at the NBA level, Don Casey (1973-82) guided the Owls to 151 wins, the fifth best total all-time, and four postseason trips in his nine years at the helm.

Casey joined the Cherry and White as an assistant to Naismith Hall of Fame coach Harry Litwack in 1967, serving on his staff for six seasons before taking over the program. He guided the Owls to the NIT in 1978, 1981 and 1982 and a trip to the 1979 NCAA Tournament. Casey’s 1978-79 team posted a 25-4 record, marking the third most wins in program history at the time.

Following his career at Temple, Casey went on to coach 20 years in the NBA, serving as head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers (1989-90) and the New Jersey Nets (1999-00).
