Dr. Ray Moyer was the team physician for Temple’s student-athletes and the director of Temple’s Sport Medicine Centers. He also was the Howard Steel Professor of Orthopedic Surgery in the School of Medicine.

Dr. Moyer began his career in athletics as a student at Pennridge High School in Pennsylvania, where he earned all-Buxmont recognition in football and baseball as well as all-state honors in baseball. He attended Lafayette College, where he pursued his baseball career earning a place on the NAIA All-American team. After earning his degree in biology in 1963, he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Medical School in 1968 and performed his internship at the University of Vermont. He then joined the Navy as a flight surgeon. From 1970 to 1971, he served in Vietnam attached to a Marines unit.

Dr. Moyer first came to Temple for his residency in orthopedics in 1972. In addition to his service to Temple, he also assisted in the medical care of the Flyers and the 76ers from 1988 to 1990. He is married to the former Page Callaway, who assisted him at Temple games. The Moyers have two children: Jed, who attended Temple University School of Medicine, and Emily, a registered nurse..
