Fred Turoff

Fred Turoff has been active in Temple gymnastics since 1966 when he was a member of the late Carl Patterson's team. He has since served as assistant coach and head coach, being promoted to the head gymnastics post in 1976. He was the Eastern Intercollegiate Gymnastics League all-around titlist in 1968 when he also won the horizontal bar championship. That year the Owls were EIGL champions and finished fourth as a team in the NCAA championships. He has represented the United States four times in international competition, the most for any Temple athlete. He won the rings competition at the Cup of the Americas in 1969; rings and vaulting at the Maccabiah Games in 1969 and was a member of the bronze medal U.S. team at the 1970 World University Games. His 1981 team captured the EIGL championship. He was an assistant coach of the 1979 U.S. men's team that finished a best- ever third at the World Championships.
