Gavin White, III was a member of the Temple varsity crew for three years, serving as captain his senior season when he was given the Temple Varsity Club Most Valuable Oarsman Award. He earned three letters in crew and the Owls were undefeated all three seasons with a second place finish in the 1973 Dad Vail Regatta. In 1978, he was named head crew coach at Temple after serving as an assistant for three years under Tom Curran. In his six years as head coach, Temple has compiled an outstanding record. The Owls have captured the Dad Vail Regatta in 1983 and 1984 and both years have been invited to the prestigious Royal Henley Regatta in England. Competing against 42 entries from around the world, Temple finished second in the Grand Final in 1984. Under his direction, the Owls have been unbeaten in the United States competition. They have won numerous regattas and championships as the Temple crew program has earned international respect. He is the son of Temple athletic director Gavin White, Jr.Â
