Gavin White Jr. was an outstanding member of the coaching profession after starring at Temple in football. He played for Temple during the 1949-50-51 seasons and during that span the Owls had only winning teams. He made the All-Public League Team while starring for Frankford High School in 1943. In 1947, he was selected the outstanding player among 3500 competitors in the Pop Warner Conference. He coached the 1960 Temple freshman football team to a 4-0 record and Simon Gratz High School to an undefeated season in 1955. He did a great job rebuilding the Temple track program and coached his runners to the 1966 Middle Atlantic Conference University Division Championship. He received the Temple University Award in 1952 for a combination of athletic and scholastic achievement.
