A four year member of the Temple gymnastics team, Geroge Szypula served as the Owl’s captain in 1943. During his collegiate career, he captured four straight NAAU tumbling crowns along with wins in the 1943 NCAA tumbling championships and two consecutive all-around and tumbling titles at the 1942 and 1943 Eastern Intercollegiate Meet. He is one of the nation’s top collegiate gymnastics coaches and in 27 years at Michigan State, he produced gymnasts who have won 48 Big Ten and 18 NCAA championships. He was an assistant coach at Temple before starring the sport at Michigan State.
