Harry Enssler

Considered the first great quarter miler in Temple track history, Harry Enssler was the recipient of the University's first track scholarship. He held the Temple 440 yard run record (48.3) from 1932 to 1964. He led the Owls in scoring during the 1932 season when he was rated one of the East's top quarter milers. He was the anchor man on the mile relay team that set the Temple Stadium record. During the 1932 Penn Relays, he anchored the Owls' mile relay team to a championship in record time. That year he ran in the semi-final Olympic trials at Harvard and qualified for the finals. As a freshman during the 1930 season, he was fourth in the 440 at the Middle Atlantic AAU championships. He was a schoolboy standout at Northeast High School where he was outstanding in the 220 and 440 yard runs. He served as a track official for over 40 years at various scholastic and college meets and numerous national championship meets.
