Coach and captain of the first Temple gymnastics team in 1926, Harry Nelson also captained the 1927 and 1928 Owl gymnastics teams. He was a member of the Helms National Foundation Gymnastics Hall of Fame. Besides starring at Temple, he was a standout at Northeast High School where he twice won the Public High All-Around Championship. He was a member of the Philadelphia Turners team that won three national titles. Listed in US Gymnastics Federation's Who's Who, he was also a very successful coach, teacher and gymnastics official. Now retired, he has been president of numerous important organizations during his outstanding career. He was one of the top gymnastics judges in the nation, officiating at numerous international and national meets over the years. He coached Northeast High to seven Public High School Gymnastics Championships and to nine consecutive swimming titles.
