Ida C. Watters Smith participated in two varsity sports while at Temple University during the late 1920s. She has numerous accomplishments in the sport of swimming. Born in Gosenach, Scotland, she emigrated to the United States in May of 1920, coining the nickname "Scottie." A 1925 graduate of Frankford High School, she specialized in the 50- and 100-yard breast stroke and went undefeated throughout her entire collegiate career. She captured Intercollegiate Cup, swam in the A.A.U. competition and was a medalist winner in 1926. She was a member of the undefeated medley relay team, which included Scottie, Dorothy Hucknell, Catherine Rankin and Prudence Flemming. She played left winger for the Lady Owls field hockey team and was awarded the first ever Temple University Athletic Association Blazer Award in 1927. She and her husband William have traveled to the 1932, 1964 and 1972 Olympics.
