During his 13 seasons as head basketball coach, James Usilton, Sr. compiled a brilliant 205-79 record as Temple became a national powerhouse. His 1937-38 quintet won 23 of its 25 games and was captured by defeating Bradley, Oklahoma A&M and Colorado. The 1938 team also won the Intercollegiate Basketball Conference championship. He produced famous players like Harry Litwack, Mike Bloom, Reds Rosan, Ed Boyle and Don Shields. His 1935-36 team won 14 and lost five and reached the finals of the 1936 Olympic Trials. One of his biggest victories was a 35-31 win over Stanford and the great Hank Luisetti. He died on March 13th, 1939. His son James Jr. also starred for Temple. He is also survived by another son, his wife and two daughters.
