Jean Shiley Newhouse

First Temple athlete to win an Olympic gold medal, Jean Shiley Newhouse was captain of the 1932 Women's Track and Field Olympic team. World and Olympic record holder from 1932-1948 in high jump (5'5 ÂĽ"), she also was the holder of indoor and outdoor World record in high jump from 1929-1932. She was a member of the All-Philadelphia Field Hockey team in 1931. She served as vice-president of the Student Council in 1932. She was a member of the Helms Track and Field Hall of Fame and member of the United States Track and Field Hall of Fame. She was also a member of Board of Directors of the Southern California chapter of the United States Olympians.
