A four sport letterman, Jim Montgomery was one of the top all-around athletes at Temple. He earned 13 varsity letters, four each in wrestling and soccer, three in track and two in swimming. He was the team captain of the Temple wrestling team for three years and had a 20-3 record as a Temple wrestler. He was a hurdler in track, competed in the breaststroke as a swimmer and played center halfback for the soccer team. A graduate of Girard College, he won eight letters and was captain of the basketball team. From 1940 to 1971, he coached track, cross-country, basketball and tennis at Central High School. He won numerous championships, giving him more titles than any other coach in Central High history. He retired in 1971.
