Joan Paul Rocchino was a Temple varsity athlete for four years in field hockey, basketball, and softball and graduated in 1953. She was selected to the All-College field hockey first team from 1945-1952 and was on the All-Philadelphia second or third team from 1949 to 1962. She was also on the United States first team in 1956. She won the WAA Blazer Award as an undergraduate. After graduation, she continued as a field hockey player, coach, teacher, and service volunteer. As a teacher and coach at Upper Dublin High School from 1953 to 1960, she had seven championship teams in field hockey and basketball in both the Tri-County and Inter-County Leagues. In 1957-58, her teams were both undefeated. She coached field hockey for 14 years at Gwynedd Mercy Academy for Girls, winning four East League and one Athletic Association of Catholic Academies championships. She started and for two years coached the Wissahickon Club hockey team. She also played internationally on the 1956 U.S. touring field hockey team which traveled to an international conference in Australia and also toured New Zealand and the Fiji Islands.
