One of the top athletes of his time, Joe Morelli not only was a four-year letter winner as a two-way performer in football but was also a member of the Temple track team.

In his senior season in 1963, Morelli led the Middle Atlantic Conference in interceptions with five and was selected as an all-East conference halfback.  The 1963 season was also Temple’s first winning season at 6-3-1 in nine years.

Morelli, who was offered a free agent contract with the Green Bay Packers following his graduation, was named the recipient of 1964 Owl award for the Outstanding Student-Athlete.  Most notably, he is three-times an Owl as he has three degrees from temple, earning his bachelor’s degree in 1964, his master’s degree in 1969 and doctorate in 1979.
