Joey Cromer

The 13th highest scorer in Temple basketball history at his time with 1,118 points, Joey Cromer played an important role as the Owls captured the 1969 National Invitation Tournament championship. He scored 470 points and averaged 15.7 points a game as the 1968-69 team rolled to a 22-8 record. He was outstanding in the NIT, scoring 19 points and making nine of 13 shots as Temple defeated Boston College for the title. He had 23 points in the win over St. Peter’s, 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the victory over Florida and 15 points against Tennessee while starring in every NIT game. Each season, he increased his scoring average, netting 11.5 points as a sophomore and 12.1 his junior year. He had his career high of 35 points against Penn and had 27 point in an important road win over Creighton. He played three varsity seasons at Sterling (N.J.) High School where he averaged 22.3 points per game as a senior when his team compiled a 22-3 record. He scored at a 20.1 clip as a junior and his total of 1043 points was a Sterling High career record.
