John Hughes

John Hughes played three seasons of varsity soccer at Temple University and captained the Owls in 1948. He earned first team All-American honors in 1947 and 1948. He was selected to play in college all-star games in Chicago, Pittsburgh and St. Louis. Temple compiled a 21-2-2 record during his three seasons. He played 15 years in the American Professional Soccer League and was on several championship teams. He was picked to represent the United States in more than two dozen international games. He has been a successful high school coach and was the first soccer coach at Philadelphia Textile. He was the head coach at Washington High School and has produced Public League championship teams 1978, 1979 and 1981. He was named Soccer Coach of the Year in 1979 and the 1981 All Sports Coach of the Year by the Philadelphia Coaches Association. Before coming to Temple, he starred at Northeast High School where he made the All-Public and All-Scholastic teams.
