A 1931 graduate in Health and Physical Education, Lorena Vowinkel Powell was the President of Crown and Shield Honorary Society in 1931. She was a member of the Philadelphia Turngeminde Gymnastics Club, which won the U.S. Olympic Trials as a team in 1930. She placed 22nd in the national pentathlon event in 1930. She performed and taught tap, modern and ballet dance in Philadelphia and New York and coached Collingswood, N.J. High School to four Jersey League basketball titles from 1937-42. She developed many fine basketball players who went on to play at Temple and expanded her degree in physical education to specialize in creative and remedial physical education.
