Marie Kerstetter Appel arned 11 letters while at Temple University. She played on the field hockey team for three years, played 3rd singles on the tennis team for three years, was on the basketball team for four seasons and in the infield for the softball team for one campaign. She earned a spot on the All-American Reserve squad as a junior. She was the third coed at Temple to make the All-American team while in school. During three years in goal for the field hockey team, the Lady Owls chalked up a three-year record of 13-1-3 while outscoring their opponents 59-20. Temple honors included TU Athlete of the Year Award in 1952, WAA Plaque and Blazer Award, Four-year Award for Field Hockey, along with Outstanding Senior and Honor Graduate Award, all in 1952. Her senior year (1952) will be remembered as one of the best in Women's Intercollegiate Athletics.
