Mark Bright was selected the game’s most valuable player when Temple defeated California, 28-17, to win the Garden State Bowl at Giants Stadium in 1979.  He gained 112 yards on 19 carries to lead the Owls to their only Bowl victory. He was the sixth leading rusher in Temple history at his time, netting 1,943 yards. He scored 17 touchdowns. He was the team’s leading ground gainer in 1979 with 1,036 yards. He had six 100 yard rushing games during his career with a high of 163 yards against Syracuse in 1979.
