Mark Macon was at the time the leading scorer in Temple basketball history with 2,609 points and was second on the all-time steals list with 281. He earned numerous honors. He was the all-time leading scorer in Atlantic 10 Conference men's basketball history and was the only four-time first team All-Conference selection in A-10 annuals during his time. A first team All-American freshman during the 1987-88 season, the Saginaw, Michigan product helped lead the Owls to a 32-2 record, a No. 1 ranking in the Associated press poll and a berth in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. He led Temple in scoring all four of his seasons. The 1991 Temple graduate was named National Freshman of the Year by UPI and the USBWA. Â A six-year NBA performer, he was picked by Denver as the eighth pick in the first round of the 1991 draft.
