An eight-time All-American, Mike Silverstein was an outstanding all-around gymnast. He earned All-American honors in floor exercise, rings, vault and the horizontal bar. Competing for Temple from 1974-78, he captured the Eastern Intercollegiate Gymnastic League Championship four times. He was a four time national champion and a member of the 1978 US National team. He was named to four U.S. all-star teams. Winner of seven international medals (two gold), he was a qualifier for the 1980 Olympic trials. He was Temple's Most Valuable Performer during the 1976-77 and 1977-78 seasons. He was an assistant coach at Temple during the 1978-79 season. He received an NCAA postgraduate scholarship (1 of only 5 in the US).
