Since the program began during the 1972-73 season, Nikki Franke is Temple's only women's fencing coach to bring national prominence to the University. Entering her 24th season as Temple’s coach, she has led the Owls to 19 national post-season appearances. She was the United States Fencing Coaches Association Women’s Coach of the Year in 1983, 1987, 1988, and 1991. She led the Owls to their first national championship during the 1991-92 season. As a world-class athlete herself, she was a member of the 1976 and 1980 U.S. Olympic teams and was USFA’s national champion in 1975 and 1980. In her honor, she was a NIFWA All-American and inducted into the Brooklyn College Hall of Fame in 1979.  An associate professor, she has earned her master’s and doctoral degree from Temple.
