An authority on women's sports, Prudence Gunson Fleming served Temple University 42 years as an athlete, coach and administrator. She was named to the Pennsylvania Swimming Hall of Fame in 1968 and also starred in basketball at Temple. She was a member of the Temple faculty from 1931 to 1973 before retiring. She coached the Owl swimming team for 15 years besides teaching numerous swim courses, She designed the aquatics wing of Temple's Pearson Hall. She was the faculty advisor to the Women's Athletic Association for seven years. She was the founder of the Philadelphia Women's Swimming Officials in 1936 and served as chairwoman of the group from 1936 to 1940 and from 1957 to 1959. Her publications include numerous articles in educational journals and swimming guides.
