Rod’s career batting average was a .399 and hit over .400 twice (.439 and .432). The Owls earn a berth in the 1977 College World Series with the help of Rod Johnson. His outstanding scholarship, athletic performance and leadership achievements gave him the George M. Illman Award in 1978. As a senior, he was named the East Coast Conference Most Valuable Player.
