Quarterback Steve Joachim climaxed a great senior season in 1974 by becoming the only Maxwell Trophy winner in Temple football history. He made the Walter Camp Foundation first All-American team, earned second team honors from UPI and was on the third team named by AP and the Football News. He was selected UPI's Eastern Player of the Year and was ECAC Co-Player of the Year. He led the nation in total offense with 2,227 yards. He played in both the Blue-Gray Game and the All-American Bowl. He played in 20 games for Temple as the Owls compiled outstanding 9-1 (1973) and 8-2 (1974) records under coach Wayne Hardin. In his two seasons at Temple, he completed 208 of 380 passes for 3,262 yards and 31 touchdowns. He transferred to Temple from Penn State and became an immediate standout. He was drafted by the Baltimore Colts and played with several pro teams. He was a record-setting quarterback at Haverford High School where he earned a host of honors including All-American, All-State, All-Delco and Big 33. He was also All-State in basketball.
