Susanna Dougherty Merkle

Susanna Dougherty Merkle was a collegiate teams for women at Temple (1928-32). She placed second in javelin at the 1932 AAU National Track & Field Championships. She participated in the 1932 Olympic Trials in Chicago. She was a 1932 graduate with a degree in physical education and a member of Phi Delta Psi. She coached basketball for many years at West Catholic High School. She started girls' athletic program at Cardinal Neuman High School in West Palm Beach, Florida in 1964. In six years, her swim team captured the Florida State High School Championships and she was named High School Swim Coach of the Year by the Sun Coast Athletic Conference, 1970.
