A four-year stater as a defensive back, Todd Bowles earned first-team All-East honors as a junior in 1984 when he also recieved honorable mention on the Assiociated Press All-American team. The 1984 season saw him credited with 86 tackles including 36 solo stops. He also had four sacks for 44 yards and returned three interceptions nine yards. He had four solo tackles and nine assists against Pittsburgh. He was outstanding as the Owls ranked 21st nationally in team defense. He missed the first three games of his senor season (1985) after dislocating six bones in his left wrist in late August. He came back to record 30 solo tackles, nine assists, a sack and a half for 14 yards and one interception that he returned 12 yards. He was selected to play in the 1985 Blue Gray Game. The Washington Redskins signed him as a free agent in 1985, and he developed into a pro standout. He played with the Redskins from 1986 to 1990, played with the San Francisco 49ers in 1991 and returned to the Redskins for the 1992 and 1993 seasons.
