Tom Lambert

A three-time All-American, Tom Lambert's career at Temple was interrupted by service in the Army. He played the entire 1944 soccer season and was named first team All-American. He entered the Army in December, 1944 and served in the Phillippines and Japan until the war ended. He returned to Temple in the Fall of 1946 but missed most of the soccer season because of injuries to both legs. He captained the 1947 soccer team that was named "Mythical National Champion" by a vote of the nation's soccer coaches. Coached by Temple Hall of Famer Pete Leaness, again was named to the first All-American team. He earned first team All-American honors for the third time after the 1948 season. He was also a member of the Temple basketball team for four seasons. Following his graduation from Temple, he began a professional soccer career. In 1954-55 he captained the Philadelphia Uhrik Truckers that captured the American Professional Soccer League Championship. He pioneered soccer and became the first head coach at Southern Regional High School in Manahawkin, NJ. in 1975.Â
