Dougal, Tony

Tony Dougal

An outstanding all-around athlete at Temple University, Tony Dougal earned three letters in both football and baseball from 1928 to 1931. He played both offense and defense in football and was named to the 1931 All-East team. He was also the Owls' punter and kicker. He was Temple's top pitcher and signed with the Boston Red Sox in 1932. He also played professional football as a tackle with the Philadelphia Eagles. When his signing days ended, he became a successful teacher, coach and athletic trainer. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame in 1980 and was elected to the National Trainers Hall of Fame in 1974. He was the athletic trainer for the Montreal Olympics in 1976. He was also the coach and trainer for the 1948 Blue-Gray game. He was named the New England Trainer of the Year in 1964 to reward an outstanding career at Boston University and Dartmouth. He helped coach football, baseball and track at Temple.
