An outstanding athlete while at Temple University, Virginia Allen became one of the most respected figures in women's athletics. An All-Philadelphia hockey player, she earned All-American honors in lacrosse and played on U.S. lacrosse team 1935-38. Following her graduation from Temple, she devoted her career to girls' athletics and student activities at Swarthmore High School where she became a legend. She coached lacrosse there for 25 years and had an unbelievable 25 unbeaten seasons. She developed 11 All-American lacrosse players, 18 of her protégés playing on U.S. teams. She was the Director of girls' athletics at Swarthmore for 34 years. She developed numerous athletes who later became outstanding coaches.
