Virginia Middleton Doane excelled in field hockey, basketball and softball. She helped the 1945-47 field hockey squads achieve a 15-4-3 record, under Patricia Collins and Grace Schuler McGeoy. In four seasons, Virginia and her basketball teammates compiled a fine 29-4 record. After graduating from Temple, she taught and coached at Upper Darby High School for 23 years, before retiring in 1981. She coached field hockey for nine seasons, tennis for two and basketball for eight. In her final two seasons, she guided her teams to successive 11-5 records. Named Central League Coach of the Year in 1969-70, as her undefeated Royals finished 16-0. She was a former basketball standout at Norristown High School. She also coached at Temple University for three seasons from 1955-57, where her teams compiled an 18-6-1 record.
