Walt Nackoney was an outstanding track performer at Temple in the two mile and the 3000 meter steeplechase. He participated in the final US Olympic Team try-outs in 1936. During the 1936 and 1937 seasons, he was one of the top two milers in the East and a consistent point scorer in Temple's dual meets. He was part of a trio with Temple Hall of Famers Eulie Peacock and Al Threadgill that represented the Owls in many invitational meets. He won the Junior National AAU 3000 Meter Steeplechase in 1936 in record time and captured the 5000 meter event at the 1937 Middle Atlantic AAU Indoor Championships. A medal winner in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the 1935, 1936 and 1937 Penn Relays, he is now retired and was a successful coach and teacher in the Philadelphia School System.
