Gymnasts Headed To NCAA Eastern Regional

PHILADELPHIA (April 2, 1999) -- Temple Owl gymnasts Joe Martelli, Mike Moran and Aaron

Murphy will compete in the NCAA Eastern Regional this weekend at the

University of Illinois, Champaign, Ill. The Owls qualified for the NCAA

Eastern Regional after competing in the ECAC Championships on March 27,

1999.

A native of Southwick, Mass., Martelli qualified for the regionals on

pommel horse, vault, floor exercise and rings. The senior human biology

major finished fifth on the vault with a 9.15 and fourth on the parallel

bars with a 9.20 at the ECAC Championship.

Moran, a native of Windsor, Conn., earned a first place finish with a

9.775 on rings in the ECAC Championship. The junior exercise science

major will compete in the all-around at the NCAA Eastern Regionals as

well.

A native of Boardman, Ohio, Murphy qualified for regionals after

placing 5th on pommel horse with a 9.575. He is a junior elementary

education major.

As a team, the Owls finished with a 5-15 record. The three Temple

gymnasts will compete at the University of Illinois on Saturday, April

10 at 7:00 p.m.
