WEBER AND MAGUIRE REPRESENT TEMPLE MEN'S GYMNASTICS WELL AT 2002 WINTER CUP CHALLENGE

Temple University senior Alex Weber and junior Richard Maguire represented the Owls at the Winter Cup Challenge, held in Las Vegas, Nevada at the All-American Sports Park, February 8-9. Nearly 100 of the USA's top male gymnasts battled for the 2002 Winter Cup Challenge all-around title and two open spots on the U.S. national team.

Maguire placed 19th all-around in the qualifying round with a 49.875 score. The New Rochelle, N.Y. native finished 10th on parallel bars (8.625), tied for 12th on both floor exercise (8.700) and vault (9.050), tied for 30th on rings (8.100), tied for 34th on horizontal bar (8.100) and tied for 58th on pommel horse (7.300).

Weber placed tied for 26th all-around in the qualifying round with a 48.950 score. The Kutztown, Pa. native finished 35th on parallel bars (8.100), tied for 37th on both the rings (7.950) and vault (8.800), tied for 39th on both pommel horse (7.950) and horizontal bar (8.000) and tied for 43rd on floor exercise (8.150).

The Temple men's gymnastics squad, under the direction of 26th-year head coach Fred Turoff, returns to action this Saturday, February 16, at Penn State University.
