NO. 10-RANKED TEMPLE MEN'S GYMNASTICS TEAM GETS EDGED BY NO. 9 UMASS IN TRI-MEET FEATURING THREE NATIONALLY-RANKED PROGRAMS

2.23.02 | Men's Gymnastics

The Temple University men's gymnastics team, ranked 10th nationally, placed second in a tri-meet competition held Saturday, February 23 at McGonigle Hall. The Owls finished with a 209.350 team scoring placing just behind ninth-ranked Massachusetts (210.350) and ahead of No. 19 Springfield (192.050).

Individually, the Owls had four event victories among three competitors. Junior Richie Maguire won two events, capturing the floor exercise with a 9.300 effort and winning parallel bars with a 8.800 score. Junior Alex Weber posted the meet's top score on pommel horse with a 9.600 showing. Freshman Nyika White had a 9.200 score on still rings to best the rest of the competition.

The best all-around score belonged to Massachusetts' Darren Morace, who posted a 53.300 effort. Morace also won the vault with a 9.400 showing.

Temple, under the direction of 26th-year head coach Fred Turoff returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, February 24, in a 5 p.m. meet at Southern Connecticut.
