2.5.02 | Men's Gymnastics

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University men's gymnastics team moved from twelfth place to ninth place in the latest collegiate men's national rankings, released February 4, 2002.

The improvement came after two strong weekend performances from coach Fred Turoff's squad. Last Friday (Feb. 1), the Owls defeated nationally-ranked Army 208.200-205.000 in a dual meet at McGonigle Hall. Two days later, the Owls suffered a hard fought, 208.800-207.750 loss to Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass. The Minutemen are currently ranked eighth nationally.

Individually, junior Richard Maguire places among the nation's top ten in three categories. The New Rochelle, N.Y. native ranks seventh in the all-around (51.975) while placing ninth in the floor exercise (9.050) and eighth on parallel bars(8.775).

Teammates Theo Maes and Alex Weber are also among the nation's best. Maes ranks seventh on vault with a 9.325 season-best score. Weber's 9.200 effort on pommel horse is the nation's eighth-best score of the season.
