TEMPLE CAPTURES 2002 ECAC MEN'S GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIP; RICHIE MAGUIRE WINS ALL-AROUND TITLE

Temple posted a 210.500 team score to out-distance second place Massachusetts (208.200) and third place William & Mary (206.700).
The Owls, ranked 11th nationally, won the title in dramatic fashion. Trailing defending champion UMass, ranked ninth nationally, entering the Championship's final rotation, Temple posted the meet's highest event score with a 37.150 on vault to earn the win before a raucous home crowd. UMass had won the trophy the past three years
Temple junior Richie Maguire won the all-around title with a 53.500 effort after finishing the competition with a meet-best 9.500 on vault. Darren Morace of UMass placed second all-around with a 52.800 score. Temple junior Alex Weber and Navy's Dan Finnegan finished tied for third with 51.700 scores.
The ECAC Men's Gymnastics Championships continue tomorrow, Sunday, March 24 at McGonigle Hall, with the event finals. The top eight finishers from each of today's events qualify for tomorrow's event finals. Competition begins at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased at the door.
