MAGUIRE'S TITLE RUN CONTINUES ON DAY TWO OF ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS; FRED TUROFF NAMED ECAC COACH OF THE YEAR

Temple University junior Richie Maguire, after capturing the all-around title on Saturday, continued his winning ways on Sunday, winning both the vault and parallel bars on day two of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Men's Gymnastics Championships at McGonigle Hall.

The annual ECAC awards were also announced on Sunday. Temple's Fred Turoff, in his 26th season coaching the Owls, was named the conference's coach of the year. Army's Troy Pazcoguin was the recipient of the senior award. Illinois-Chicago's Neil Faustino was named the league's rookie of the year and Joshua Chasse of Springfield captured most improved honors.

The day's first rotation was on floor exercise and pommel horse. Army's Matt Eckerman and Clayton Kent of UMass tied for first on the floor with 9.200 scores. Darren Morace of UMass finished third with a 8.900 effort. On pommel horse, Justin Hammar of UMass was the top competitor with a 9.300 showing. Navy's Dan Finnegan placed second with a 9.000 score and Brendan Hoffman of William & Mary finished third with a 8.950 effort.

The next rotation took place on rings and vault. Temple captured the first three positions on vault, as Maguire won the event with a 9.500 effort, the highest event score of the afternoon. Teammates Theo Maes and Alex Weber finished second and third respectively, with 9.400 and 9.225 showings. Southern Connecticut's Curtis Haines won rings with a 9.450 score. Joshua Chasse of Springfield finished second with a 9.400 score and Temple's Nyika White placed third with a 9.250 showing.

The final rotation took place on parallel bars and horizontal bar. Maguire won the parallel bars with a 8.800 score as teammate Travis Kitchen placed second with a 8.700 effort. Southern Connecticut's Curtis Haines placed third with an 8.550. Ben Jacobs of UMass won horizontal bar with a 9.150 score. Fellow Minuteman Darren Morace and Illinois-Chicago's Ambrose Jackson tied for second with 8.800 showings.
