The Temple University men's gymnastics team, ranked 11th nationally, has earned an invitation to the NCAA national qualifying competition in Norman, Oklahoma, Thursday, April 4, 2002. Qualifying teams and competitors advance to the NCAA Championships, held Friday and Saturday, April 5-6, in Norman.

The Owls highlighted a successful season by winning the Eastern College Athletic Conference title this past weekend (March 23-24, 2002) at McGonigle Hall. The Owls posted a 210.500 team score to unseat defending champion UMass en route to winning the 21st ECAC/EIGL title in Temple men's gymnastics history.

Head coach Fred Turoff, in his 26th season directing the Owls, was named the ECAC Gymnastics Coach of the Year at the Championships after directing the team to a 17-9 regular season record and a 33-9 overall competition mark in 2002.

Richie Maguire (New Rochelle, N.Y./Pocono Mountain H.S.) stole the show at the ECAC's. The junior won the all-around championship on Saturday before capturing vault and parallel bars titles on Sunday.

Temple men's gymnastics has won one NCAA title in school history, capturing the team championship in 1949.
