PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple men's soccer team posted its 12th win of the season, defeating Philadelphia Soccer Seven rival Philadelphia University, 1-0, on Tuesday afternoon in its final tune-up before heading to Richmond for the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

In his first start of the season, sophomore Bryan Laverdure made his first shot of the season count, tallying in the game's 56th minute to lead the Owls. Laverdure was one of three Temple players making their first starts of the year as head coach David MacWilliams wanted to ensure that his team would have fresh legs for the Tournament which starts on Thursday with a 5:30 match against George Washington.

Junior goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan, who entered the game ranked 10th in the nation in goals against average, stopped five shots to record his eighth shutout of the season. He now has a 0.56 goals against average and is one shutout shy of tying the school record set by Jeff Kraft three times, the last coming in the 1980 season. Counting Sean Thompson's two shutouts, the 2003 Owls squad has set a new school record for shutouts in a season with 10.

For Philadelphia (5-13-0), Justin Hewins recorded three saves in goal.

Temple, now 12-5-2, will travel tomorrow to Richmond and attend the Tournament banquet where the all-conference teams will be announced.
