OKLAHOMA, MICHIGAN AND ILLINOIS ADVANCE TO SATURDAY'S TEAM FINALS IN SECOND QUALIFYING SESSION OF 2003 NCAA MEN'S GYMNASTICS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AT TEMPLE'S LIACOURAS CENTER

PHILADELPHIA-Defending national champion Oklahoma (221.125), Michigan (217.950) and Illinois (217.675) advanced to Saturday's team finals with their performances in Friday evening's qualifying session of the 2003 NCAA Men's Gymnastics National Championships at Temple University's Liacouras Center on April 11. The three teams will be joined Ohio State (218.600), Penn State (218.575) and Iowa (214.075), who qualified for the team finals earlier in the day.

California (217.275), host Temple (209.400) and Nebraska (207.425) saw their team seasons come to an end on Friday evening. Earlier in the day, Stanford (212.325), Minnesota (211.325) and William & Mary (203.625) witnessed the conclusion to their team campaigns.

Five of the six teams that qualified for Saturday's team finals hail from the Big Ten Conference.

The top three individuals on each event and three all-arounders that are not members of the three qualifying teams from each session, also advanced to Saturday's competition. The Saturday session, scheduled from 4:00-7:00 p.m., will consist of team and all-around finals, as well as qualifying for event finals. Six teams and six additional individuals on each event, plus the all-around, make up Saturday's competition.

Saturday's team finals will be televised by ESPN via tape delay from 3:30-5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14. Chris Marlow will be the play-by-play announcer and Bart Connor will provide the color commentary.

Individual and event finals will take place on Sunday from 2:00-3:30 p.m. The top eight individuals on each event, plus an alternate, will compete.

SESSION TWO INDIVIDUAL QUALIFIERS:

All-Around: Cody Moore (California), Steven Friedman (Nebraska) and David Eaton (California).

Floor Exercise: Graham Ackerman (California), John Robella (Army) and David Ramos (Temple).

Pommel Horse: Alex Weber (Temple), Mace Patterson (Nebraska) and Ted Brown (Springfield).

Rings: Nyika White (Temple), Richard Maguire (Temple) and Tory Torcomian (Temple).

Vault: Josh Rasile (Nebraska), Graham Ackerman (California) and Aaron Jackson (Air Force).

Parallel Bars: Graham Ackerman (California), Aaron Floyd (California) and David Ramos (Temple).

High Bar: Aaron Floyd (California), Michael Ashe (California) and Chris Rodriguez (California).

Individual tickets for the 2003 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships are $12 per session for Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are on sale at the Liacouras Center Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations throughout the Delaware Valley. Temple students and employees can purchase tickets at a $2 discount at the Liacouras Center Box Office with a valid Temple ID.
