MEN'S GYMNASTICS FALLS TO 13TH-RANKED WILLIAM AND MARY

WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- Although the ninth-ranked Temple men's gymnastics team led the team score by as much as 2.45 points during the first two rotations of the meet, the Owls allowed their lead to slowly diminish and eventually disappear in the final moments of the third rotation as 13th-ranked William and Mary defeated the visiting Owls 205.75-204.900 on Saturday, January 24.

Despite the loss, Temple earned three first-place individual finishes. Junior David Ramos won the floor exercise with a personal best score of 9.45. On still rings senior Toros Torcomian placed first with a score of 9.40. Senior Theo Maes took first on the vault by scoring a 9.350.

Sophomore Brian Forquer aided the Owl effort by tying Williams and Mary's Nyker Sheldon for second-place on the vault (9.00) and by placing third on the still rings (8.85). Forquer's consistent performances throughout the meet earned him a second-place finish in the all-around competition with a scoring 50.05.

Seniors John Behrle, Kevin Hallinan, and Stephen Smith each earned points for the Owls by placing in the top three on their respective pieces of equipment. With a score of 8.600 Behrle tied William and Mary's Mike Powell for second place on the pommel horse. Hallinan (8.50) and Smith (8.45) placed second and third, respectively, on horizontal bar.

The Temple men's gymnastics team (2-1) continues its roadtrip as it takes on 16th-ranked James Madison tomorrow in Harrisonburg, Va.
