MEN'S GYMNASTICS FALLS TO NO. 3 ILLINOIS

CHAMPAIGN, ILL. -- Despite strong performances on rings and vault, the No. 14 Temple men's gymnastics team fell 210.900 -- 221.550 to No. 3 Illinois in front of nearly 900 spectators on Friday, February 27 at Huff Hall. The Fighting Illini hope the win propels them back into the No. 1 position in the NCAA rankings. With the best average team score in collegiate gymnastics last week, the Illini occupied the top spot in the rankings.
For Temple, junior Nyika White and senior Theodore Maes led the scoring. White captured Temple's lone first-place individual finish by scoring a 9.700 on rings. Maes took second on vault (9.350) and tied Illinois's Erik Garnett for third on floor exercise (9.100).
Senior captain Toros Torcomain took third on rings (9.350), while junior David Ramos placed third on parallel bars (8.950).
The Owls next travel to Illinois-Chicago on Sunday, February 29 for a dual meet.
