PHILADELPHIA -- Eight members of the Temple University men's gymnastics team have been selected to compete in the 2004 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships at the University of Illinois, April 2-4. John Behrle, Kevin Hallinan, Zach Hanson-Hart, Alex Gorski, Theodore Maes, David Ramos, Toros Torcomian, and Nyika White will represent the Owls as they vie for individual national titles on every apparatus.

Ramos, Torcomian, and White return to the NCAA National Collegiate Men's Gymnastics Championships for the second consecutive year. Last year, White took third overall on still rings and earned All-American honors. Ramos competed on floor exercise and parallel bars, while Torcomian worked the rings in 2003.

This year, White qualified on rings and vault. Ramos, the current Puerto Rican national floor exercise champion, will compete on floor, pommel horse, parallel bars and horizontal bar. Temple team captain Torcomian also qualified for the second time on rings.

Maes, who missed the entire 2003 season due a broken ankle, rebounded back into the spotlight this season and will compete for national titles on floor, vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar.

Hallinan qualified on pommel horse, parallel bars, and horizontal bar. Behrle will compete on floor and pommel horse, while Hanson-Hart will contend on floor. Alex Gorksi, the lone freshman Owl, will compete on vault.

The national qualifier, which consists of two pre-qualifying sessions, will be conducted April 2 at Assembly Hall on the campus of the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois. Three teams and the top three all-around competitors not on one of the qualifying teams, plus the top three individuals on each event not already qualified on a team or as an all-around competitor, will advance from each pre-qualifying session to the finals session. Final competitions will take place April 3-4, also at Illinois.
