NYIKA WHITE TO COMPETE AT U.S. GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIP

PHILADELPHIA - Temple University senior gymnast Nyika White placed second on still rings at the U.S. Gymnastics Qualifier in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Saturday, April 24. White now advances to the U.S. Gymnastics Championship to be held at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville, Tenn. on June 2, 2004.
At the Qualifier, White and Army's Brian Lee both scored a 9.50 on rings to tie for second place. Lee also advanced to the U.S. Championship meet.
White, a two-time All-American on still rings, finished the 2004 season by placing second in the event at the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championship. At the ECAC Championship meet White also finished second on still rings.
Participation in the U.S. Gymnastics Qualifier requires a gymnast to have scored at least a 9.50 in the regular season. White scored above a 9.5 in every meet this season, except one. He scored a season-high 9.8 at the ECAC Individual Championship Finals. Only the top two gymnasts per event advance to the U.S. Gymnastics Championship.
