FORMER OWL GYMNAST MILES AVERY NAMED U.S. ASSISTANT COACH FOR 2004 OLYMPICS

PHILADELPHIA - Miles Avery, a Philadelphia native who walked-on to the Temple men's gymnastics team in 1976 and became a three-time most valuable gymnast, has been named a United States assistant coach for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Avery recently completed his sixth season as head men's gymnastics coach at Ohio State University and is serving his third-consecutive Olympic coaching position. Avery was a member of the 1996 and 2000 coaching staffs that led the U.S. men's squad to an Olympic finish of fifth in both years.

Avery was a four-year letterwinner for the Owls under head coach Fred Turoff. He was a two-year captain and three-time most valuable gymnast. Avery was a U.S. National Team member from 1981-84.
