9.15.04 | Women's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA - G. P. Gromacki, who led the Saint Lawrence women's basketball team to six consecutive 20-win seasons and five Division III NCAA Tournament appearances, has been named an assistant women's basketball coach at Temple University, it was announced today by Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw. Gromacki joins the staff of head women's basketball coach, Dawn Staley.

Gromacki took over the Saint Lawrence program in 1998 and had an immediate impact. He led the Saints to a then school-best 23-6 overall record and their first NCAA Tournament victory in school history. The team also recorded another school first, breaking the 100 point mark in a single game, scoring 106 points against Middlebury College. Gromacki went on to compile a 143-30 (.827 winning percentage) record including a home mark of 70-5 (.933 winning percentage) at Saint Lawrence. Gromacki led the Saints to the NCAA "Elite Eight" in 1999-2000. He was selected Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year in 2002 and coached the 2002 WBCA Division III Player of Year, Meredith Eisenhut. Gromacki ranked fourth among Division III coaches in overall winning percentage and he reached the 100 win plateau as fast as any Division III coach in the nation.

Prior to taking over at Saint Lawrence, Gromacki served as an assistant coach/manager with the New England Blizzard of the ABL in 1996-97. He also worked as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the women's basketball program at Western New England College in 1994-95. In addition, Gromacki has extensive basketball camp experience including those run by John Calipari, Chris Ford and Wayne Embry as well as working at camps at Michigan and Harvard.

Gromacki is a 1993 graduate of Ohio State University where he also earned a Master of Arts degree in Physical Education and a Master of Arts in Public Administration. Gromacki's arrival coincides with the departure of assistant coach Ervin Monier, who leaves after four years on Staley's staff.
