MEN'S GYMNASTICS EARNS DUAL MEET VICTORY AT M.I.T.

2.19.05 | Men's Gymnastics

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- The Temple men's gymnastics team swept all six events en route to a 197.40-177.90 victory over host M.I.T. Saturday afternoon at du Pont Gymnasium. Several underclassmen competed to earn valuable experience for the 12th-ranked Owls, who boasted the individual champion on each apparatus.

 

Temple's best event score was achieved on the vault with a combined 33.85 effort. The Owls totaled 33.80 on floor exercise, 33.25 on pommel horse, 33.20 on rings, 32.45 on parallel bars and 30.85 on the high bar.

 

Individually, freshman Andy Corp posted the Owls' best event score with an 8.80 to win the pommel horse. A trio of sophomores also captured event titles, including Derek Shepard on vault (8.60), Anthony Smith on high bar (8.40) and Matt Lowry on parallel bars (8.35). Senior John Behrle won the floor exercise (8.65) and junior Brian Forquer placed first on rings (8.75).

 

Shepard also won the all-around crown with a 48.30 total. Eleven student-athletes competed for the Cherry & White.

 

Temple (7-5), under the direction of 29th-year head coach Fred Turoff, returns to action tomorrow at Springfield (MA) College in a 1:00 p.m. dual meet.
