SPRINGFIELD, MA - The Temple men's gymnastics team defeated host Springfield College 204.100-199.250 in a dual meet Sunday afternoon at Blake Arena. The victory was the second win in as many days for the Owls in the state of Massachusetts, after defeating M.I.T. Saturday in Cambridge.
Temple (8-5) was led by freshman Luke Vexler, who placed first on both the pommel horse (8.900) and floor exercise (9.000) en route to capturing the all-around crown with a 51.625 total. Vexler, the younger brother of former Temple gymnastics standout Aaron Vexler (1994-98), will be a member of the United States squad at the Maccabiah Games in Israel in July,
Senior Nelson Jimenez was the only event champion for the Pride, earning first place on the vault with a 9.075 score.
The No. 12-ranked Owls, under the direction of 29th-year head coach Fred Turoff, return to action this Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. in a tri-meet at McGonigle Hall featuring Illinois and the Japan Collegiate All-Stars.
